Plant Nutrition
Soil Health is the foundation of Plant Nutrition which is the basis for Food Quality which supports Human Health and improves Farmers' Livelihoods which in turn impact positively on Regional, Provincial & National economies. Positive soil output returns later as positive soil input.
Indonesia is currently facing an epidemic of stunting, chronic inflammatory disease, diabetes, obesity and chronic kidney disease which are all linked to excessive input of toxins into the soil combined with drastic overuse of pesticides including insecticides, herbicides and fungicides.
Soil health in Indonesia has reached a crisis point as shown in the findings of Brawijaya University which researched and tested soil fertility between 1970 & 2010.
The excessive use of chemical based fertilizers such as NPK & Urea combined with water soluble carcinogens and excessive amounts of the nerve toxin Glyphosate, a Pesticide/Herbicide named 'Roundup' over time leaves high volumes heavy metal residues in the soil.
Heavy metal toxins such as arsenic, cadmium, lead, copper, mercury, nickel, zinc and aluminum over sufficient time form nitrates in the top layer of soil which continue to dissolve, negatively impacting soil fertility and plant nutrition also releasing toxic Nitrous Oxide.
These water-soluble residues of heavy metals and glysophate toxins disrupt microbial activity in the rhizosphere as well as in the human microbiome, increasing intestinal permeability thereby allowing heavy metal toxins to enter the human bloodstream, penetrate the blood-brain barrier and severely impact animal and human heart and kidney function.
By adopting Regenerative Farming practices we begin to pay attention to the micronutrients in the soil. Micronutrients are key to plant growth and plant nutrition, pesticides are used to eliminate plant pests, however, once you apply a pesticide, it can also bind to soil micronutrients and make them unavailable to plants. As a result, important biological processes necessary for plant survival are hampered.
Soil health is critical to agricultural profitability. We need to understand and accept that soil is a living system, and full of life. If we manage it well, we can create an environment that is conducive to plant growth and also supports healthy soil microbial populations. Greater microbial diversity in the soil microbiome will result in soil regeneration and contribute directly to plant health, improved plant nutrition and crop value.
REGEN and liquid Biostimulant and BioChar are organic carbon-rich seaweed-based safe to use products. REGEN supports microbial diversity in marginal soils which can result in improved plant nutrition as shown in our Lab analysis of traditional rice varieties from Sulawesi and Bali such as Mekkonga, Ciherang and Mansur as well as Impari 32. REGEN products were used in over 133 individual rice farming trials from 2021-2023 to deliver higher protein and complex carbohydrate content plus zero sugar and enriched levels of trace minerals such as zinc.
